The 2024 Winter in the Midwest Series at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) will kick off the new year with Winter Classic 4 starting on January 3, 2024. The popular 16-week series, which began in December, boasts a US Equestrian Premier and National/Level 4 Jumper rating and offers more than $4 million in prize money and prizes.
WEC – Wilmington offers classes for everyone year-round and looks forward to exciting new additions and improvements in 2024, including the addition of a World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) week, the launch of a Young Hunter and Young Jumper Incentive Program and important facility updates during Winter in the Midwest.

Young Hunter and Jumper Incentive Program
Beginning January 3, 2024, WEC – Wilmington offers an affordable and exciting way to bring along young horses at its premier, climate-controlled, centrally located facility. All 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds are eligible to be nominated for the Young Hunter and Jumper Incentive Program.
All nominated jumpers will be eligible for the $45,000 Young Jumper Championship. Jumpers will pay a one-time nomination fee to enter the program. Entry fees and jumper nomination fees will be FREE for every show through November 2024.
All nominated hunters will be eligible for the Young Hunter Championship, where they will be offered back 100% of the nomination fees collected throughout the year as prize money (with a minimum of $2,500 guaranteed). Hunters will pay a one-time nomination fee to enter the program. Entry fees in the Young Hunter Division will be FREE for every show through November 2024.
The Young Hunter and Jumper Incentive Championships are tentatively scheduled to take place during WEC – Wilmington’s Fall Classic #3 in October 2024.

World Championship Hunter Rider Week
Winter Classic 5 at WEC – Wilmington will be a World Champion Hunter Rider week to recognize and celebrate the excellence of hunter athletes. Featured hunter classes will include the $15,000 USHJA National Open Hunter Derby and the $15,000 USHJA National Non-Pro Hunter Derby on Friday evening, January 12, 2024, in the R+L Arena.
The national WCHR program includes coveted year-end awards for Professionals, Developing Professionals, Amateur Owners, Adult Amateurs, Juniors, Children's and Pony riders. WCHR Program Participants qualify for National and Regional Awards by earning points at WCHR Events held across the country throughout the qualifying year. Each year the top 10 nationally ranked riders and top six regionally ranked riders in each category, come together to compete in the WCHR Finals at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
