The 2016 Vermont Summer Festival enjoyed sold-out stabling during some weeks, as well as increased entries across the board. Significant property improvements made in 2015, respected course designers, and a dynamic schedule for hunter, jumper, and equitation riders of all levels, led to the Vermont Summer Festival experiencing its most popular season to date.

At its peak, the weekly $5,000 3'3” NEHJA Hunter Derby, presented by Eastern Hay, welcomed 50 entries during World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) week. In addition, the $30,000 Manchester & The Mountains Grand Prix attracted 28 jumper competitors.

“Numbers were big this year, and the quality of horses was also very high,” said Billy Glass, Technical Coordinator of the Vermont Summer Festival. “In both the hunter and jumper rings, there were some of the nicest horses we have ever seen at the show. We were very pleased with how the riders responded to our efforts to improve the grounds, and we were honored that they brought some of their best horses this year.”

Outside the show ring, exhibitors were encouraged to experience the culture and dining of Southern Vermont with weekly exhibitor parties hosted by John and Dotty Ammerman every Wednesday evening throughout the Vermont Summer Festival. From the culinary selections at Chantecleer Restaurant, Barrows House, and Copper Grouse to outdoor family fun at Bromley Mountain and a taste of luxury at Equinox Resort, exhibitor parties were once again a highlight of the season for those visiting the Manchester region for the horse show.

“There is so much to experience within minutes of the Vermont Summer Festival grounds and our goal is to encourage exhibitors to get out into the communities,” said Ruth Lacey, Marketing Director for the Vermont Summer Festival. “It was very rewarding to see such large crowds turn out for our exhibitor parties this season.”

For over 20 years, the Vermont Summer Festival has attracted exhibitors and their families to the Manchester region in southern Vermont for great competition in an ideal summer setting. The Vermont Summer Festival will return to Harold Beebe Farm for six-weeks of competition from July 4 through August 13, 2017.
