Santiago Lambre (BRA) and his own Chacco Blue II topped an international field of entries representing 10 countries to win the $75,000 Florida Coast Equipment Grand Prix on Saturday, February 19, at World Equestrian Center – Ocala during the Winter Spectacular VII show. Lambre and the 15-year-old Oldenburg stallion cleared the first course, designed by Leopoldo Palacios (VEN), and advanced to the jump-off with eight other competitors. In the jump-off, the pair took the tight inside turns with ease and left out strides to stop the clock at 40.983 seconds for the blue ribbon. This win marked Lambre’s third grand prix victory during the 2022 Winter Spectacular Show series.

“[Chacco Blue II] is an incredible horse,” commented Lambre. “He is actually blind in one eye. He wouldn’t know it because he has been blind in that eye since he was two. He just left quarantine. He was in quarantine for 40 days, where I rode him and jumped him. I just showed him in three classes, then we came to do the grand prix and won!”

Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) piloted Artemis Equestrian Farm LLC’s Carlito’s Way to second place with a time of 41.446 seconds. Kelley Robinson (CAN) rode her own Blue’s Yer Daddy to third-place honors after the pair stopped the timers at 43.013 seconds.

Richard Spooner and Chatinus Claim Victory in the $10,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix

Richard Spooner and his own Chatinus bested a field of nearly 50 competitors to take the top prize in the $10,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix on Friday evening under the lights. Spooner and the 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding were one of 12 pairs to return to the jump-off and proved unbeatable after crossing the timers at 38.796 seconds.

“He’s an incredible horse,” explained Spooner. “He went to the World Cup Finals. I only had him for seven months before he got injured. We won a World Cup Grand Prix or two and then went to the World Cup Finals in Paris. He was on the team in the Nations Cup in Vancouver, which is where he unfortunately got hurt. He doesn’t owe me anything.”
