The first grand prix of the 2023 Winter Spectacular Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala took place on Saturday, January 7, 2023, with Santiago Lambre (BRA) and his own The Diamant Rose Z taking the victory in the $100,000 Coors Light Grand Prix. The class had 31 horse-and-rider combinations representing seven different countries take on the intricate track designed by Tucker Williams (USA). After a competitive first round, 14 combinations qualified for the jump-off. In the end, Lambre and the 12-year-old Zangersheide mare flew through the timers at 35.430 seconds to top the podium.

“I was shocked that so many riders went clear,” explained Lambre. “It was big enough and it was challenging enough, but the horses just thrive here. They always jump so well under this atmosphere. The jumps are gorgeous, the footing is perfect and the crowd is electric. If you can jump here, you can jump at the Olympics. The jump-offs are always so fast, and the competition is so strong. This is the best venue to prepare for any competition.”

Less than a second behind Lambre was Aaron Vale (USA) with his mount I Adermie R 4, owned by Lori Osterstock. The pair stopped the timers at 35.978 seconds. Tracy Fenney (USA) and MTM Farm’s MTM Apple secured third-place honors with a time of 36.187 seconds.

Penny Brennan and Vertigo Delorme Are Dynamite in the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix

Penny Brennan (GBR) and her own Vertigo Delorme bested a field of 38 competitors in the WEC Grand Arena to win the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Brennan and the 14-year-old Westphalian stallion successfully navigated the first track designed by Tucker Williams (USA) to advance to the jump-off. The pair produced a second clear round and set an unbeatable time of 37.438 to claim top honors.

“Over the first jump part of my bridle broke, so for [Vertigo Delorme] that was game on,” said Brennan of her jump-off round. “He just took off and I wasn’t able to hold him back. I tried to find the distances going forward and hope it was there, if it wasn’t, I knew he would put me there. He has always hunted the jumps. He wants to win every time he steps in the ring.”
