Peter Petschenig (AUT) and Ennebel Van Het Posthuijs, owned by Brooke Peterson, captured the $75,000 Alltech Grand Prix on Saturday, February 26, at World Equestrian Center – Ocala during the Winter Spectacular VIII show. Petschenig and the 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare bested an international field of athletes representing eight countries. This victory marks Petschenig’s second grand prix win of the Winter Spectacular series. After a competitive first round, 15 horse-and-rider combinations advanced to the jump-off. Petschenig and his mount produced a second clear round and flew through the timers at 34.162 seconds to capture the top prize.

“I just thought about going fast,” said Petschenig of his jump-off round. “I wasn’t trying to chase anyone because that never works out for me. She landed and moved where everything was right there. I landed from the combination and three strides after I saw one less and just went for it. It was really long but her scope is incredible. I just rode what I had at every moment in that jump-off.”

Sharn Wordley (NZL) piloted his own Casper to second place with a time of 35.785 seconds. Third place was awarded to Samantha Schaefer (USA) and Bonne Vie LLC’s Frasier after they stopped the clock at 36.730 seconds.

Richard Rinehart and Vincent Claim the $10,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix

Richard Rinehart and Ron Caraway’s Vincent bested a field of 51 competitors to take home the top prize in the $10,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix in the WEC Grand Arena. Colm Quinn (IRL) designed two testing tracks and 23 competitors cleared the first round to advance to the jump-off. Rinehart and the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding proved unbeatable after stopping the clock at 30.049 seconds.

“Vincent is an extremely careful horse,” explained Rinehart. “I’ve been riding him for six months now. He is owned by Ron Caraway whose kids rode when they were younger, and he still has the bug. I was very happy with Vincent. We have been working on going faster when the jumps are bigger, and it was fun to have a chance to open up his stride.”
