Hundreds of Horses to Head to Nation’s Capital for 2016 Ottawa Equestrian Tournaments

Hundreds of Canada’s top horses and riders will be heading to the nation’s capital to compete in the 2016 Ottawa Equestrian Tournaments. The two weeks of equestrian competition will include the Ottawa National Horse Show from July 13-17 and the CSI2* Ottawa International Horse Show from July 20-24 at Wesley Clover Parks in Ottawa, ON.
Highlights of the Ottawa National Horse Show include:
Wednesday, July 13 – Opening Day
Thursday, July 14 – $20,000 Open Welcome
Friday, July 15 – $7,500 Speed Derby
Saturday, July 16 – $50,000 Grand Prix
Sunday, July 17 – $10,000 Canadian Hunter Derby
The following week, show jumping competition has the added distinction of being sanctioned by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). Classified as a CSI2* event, the Ottawa International Horse Show allows riders to earn all-important Longines FEI World Ranking points. Featured competition at the CSI2* Ottawa International Horse Show includes:
Friday, July 22 – $35,000 CSI2* Open Welcome
Saturday, July 23 – $10,000 Modified Grand Prix
Sunday, July 24 – $100,000 CSI2* Classic
Throughout the two weeks, horses and riders will compete on the expansive grass field with courses set by 2015 Pan American Games course designer Michel Vaillancourt of Canada and 2016 Olympic course designer Guilherme Jorge of Brazil in his final appearance before the Rio Games.
