Show jumper Hannah Selleck will join renowned horse trainer Monty Roberts at his The Movement Symposium, to be held May 23-24 at Flag Is Up Farms in Solvang, CA.
An accomplished grand prix competitor, Selleck will participate in one of Roberts’ signature Join-Up® demonstrations on the morning of Thursday, May 24.
Roberts’ Join-Up® is a non-violent training method that utilizes nonverbal cues and the gestural language of the horse to create trust between horse and human, as will be demonstrated by Roberts and Selleck in one of the highlight sessions of the two-day symposium.
“I’ve been impressed by Monty’s horsemanship for a long time, and I recently had the opportunity to watch him at the West Coast Dressage Festival Masterclass in California and was even further awestruck by his understanding of the horse,” said Selleck, who operates Descanso Farm, her family’s own boutique breeding program dedicated to producing and competing top sport horses.
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to participate in The Movement Symposium and to experience Join-Up® first-hand, as I think Monty’s training methods are something that can be extremely beneficial for our own young horses,” continued Selleck.
Selleck and Roberts first connected through their involvement as horse welfare ambassadors. Roberts was the first global ambassador for The Brooke, an international animal welfare charity dedicated to improving the lives of working equines, and Selleck became an ambassador for Brooke USA in 2017.
“I first learned about The Brooke, and the U.S. based sister organization, Brooke USA, at an event in early 2017, and I immediately wanted to get involved,” said Selleck, who encourages interested individuals to visit www.BrookeUSA.org to learn more about the organization. “The work that they’re doing around the world is phenomenal, and it’s a privilege to get to represent them alongside horsemen like Monty.”

The symposium is aimed at taking as many people as possible on the journey to discover the unique power of horses and to educate on applying non-violent forms of communication and leadership to improve the human and horse relationship and to allow both to live better lives.
