For the fifth year in a row, Laura Connaway, of Connaway & Associates Equine Insurance Services, Inc., will present a noteworthy award to the American-bred horse who earns the highest-scoring round across all professional divisions at the Capital Challenge Horse Show running Thursday, September 28, through Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

American-bred horses competing in the professional hunter divisions, green hunter 3’ and 3’3” divisions, the WCHR Professional Challenge, and the WCHR Developing Professional Challenge at the Capital Challenge Horse Show have the opportunity to earn the Connaway & Associates Equine Insurance Services, Inc. High Point American-Bred Horse Award providing that their breeding information is correct and up-to-date in the horse show office.

"It takes time and a tremendous effort to responsibly produce quality jumping horses and I have a deep appreciation for North American breeding,” said Connaway, who competes in the grand prix show jumping divisions as an amateur with her homebred horses. “I’m thrilled to continue my partnership with the Capital Challenge Horse Show to celebrate the accomplishments of these horses and their breeders.”

The 2022 winner was Duke of Argyll, ridden by Hunt Tosh of Milton, Georgia, and owned by Betsee Parker of Middleburg, Virginia. The six-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding was also bred by Parker. Duke of Argyll is sired by Lordanos and out of Everlychin de la Pomme, a mare owned by Parker that had an illustrious career initially in the 1.50-meter jumpers with Olympian Shane Sweetnam and later as a high performance hunter with Scott Stewart, winning the championship at the 2013 Capital Challenge Horse Show.

The 2023 High Point American-Bred Horse Award will be presented on Friday evening, October 6, prior to the popular $25,000 WCHR Professional Finals competition.
