Bryn Sadler Scores $10,000 High Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic Win at Vermont Summer Festival

Bryn Sadler of Sante Fe, NM, and Cezarro capped the first week of competition at the six-week Vermont Summer Festival with a win in the $10,000 High Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic, presented by Dr. Robert Barber & Team Barber, on Sunday, July 10.  The Vermont Summer Festival runs from July 5 through August 14, at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT.

Sadler, 21, and Cezarro, owned by Showcase 81, LLC, claimed the win by topping a two-horse jump-off over courses set by Alan Wade of Ireland. Sadler crossed the timers in 42.81, a full three seconds faster than Stephanie Gallucci of Toronto, ON, who stopped the clock in 45.98 riding Zarate 2 for owner John Gallucci.

Alysson Siopes of Rye, NH, took third by posting the fastest four-fault effort in the first round riding Hagrid van ten Biesen, owned by AMS Sporthorses, LLC. Isabella Russekoff of Greenwich, CT, also had four faults to place fourth with Calvero IV, owned by Porter Allen, while Sadler rounded out the top five aboard Britt W.H., again riding for owner Showcase 81, LLC.

Sadler, who is returning to the Vermont Summer Festival after a three-year hiatus, has had the ride on Cezarro, an eight-year-old Brandenburg gelding, since September and is continually impressed by the young horse's talent.

“He is the most playful, adorable little horse ever,” she said of her 16.1hh mount. “He's so game for anything. He's green, but loves jumping and plays around the whole course; he loves it! We heard such great things about the new footing in Vermont so we decided to come back this year. I was very happy with all the horses this week.”

Imported to the U.S. last fall, Cezarro competed at the 1.30m level with Sadler until six weeks ago when they moved up to the 1.40m. Together, they collected two top-three placings in Under 25 events this spring. Despite being the smallest horse in her string, Sadler is confident Cezarro will move up to the grand prix ranks.

“I really think he can do it,” she said. “He's so game and he'll be great as long as I can keep him confident and loving his job.”

Earlier in the day, Saly Glassman of Gwynedd Valley, PA, rode Doctori, owned by Kindle Hill Affiliates, to victory in the $5,000 Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic. She and the nine-year-old Anglo-European gelding topped a four-horse jump-off with a time of 40.45 seconds. Second-place honors went to Cheryl Scott of Franklin Lakes, NJ and Thaddeus with a time of 42.16 seconds.

Gallucci also contested the $5,000 Low Classic, taking third with a clear jump-off performance in a time of 42.84 seconds riding Candide van het Kastanjehof.  Evelyn Graff of Candia, NH, and Cayman also jumped double clear in 43.77 seconds for fourth, while Scott also settled for fifth with the fastest four-fault round aboard Cyon Z.

An amateur competitor, Glassman is a financial advisor who trains with Irish Olympian Kevin Babington.  It was Babington who found Doctori in Ireland for Glassman a year and a half ago.

“He came over very green and was like riding a bus; you would turn right, but just kept going left,” recalled Glassman. “He has come a long way, and keeps getting more confident. He is a fun horse with his own eye and a great attitude about work.”

Glassman has been a familiar face at the Vermont Summer Festival for the past 16 years, and commented, “What's not to like about Vermont? The venue is magnificent; every time I look up, I think 'I'm just lucky to be alive'. It's a beautiful place and super exhibitor-friendly.”

Also on Sunday, Alyssa Kinsey of Danville, NH, took first and second in the $2,500 Marshall & Sterling Adult Jumper Classic. She claimed the win aboard Capella 37 and took second with Grisset, both horses she owns herself. For her top placings, Kinsey was awarded a pair of Tonic paddock boots and half chaps, as well as a fleece cooler, from Schockemoehle.

For over 20 years, the Vermont Summer Festival has attracted exhibitors and their families to the Manchester region in southern Vermont for great competition in an ideal summer setting.  Outside the show ring, exhibitors enjoy the charm of Vermont's shopping, dining, and outdoor activities.

Competition at the 2016 Vermont Summer Festival runs weekly from Wednesday through Sunday, beginning each day at 8 a.m.  Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children from Wednesday through Friday.  On Saturday and Sunday, admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children with 100% of all gate proceeds benefiting the Manchester Community Library, Dorset Equine Rescue, Meals on Wheels.
