Great Britain’s Amanda Derbyshire won the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award on Saturday, February 20, during week six of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, FL.

Derbyshire accumulated the highest number of points among all female athletes competing in the $37,000 Adequan® WEF Challenge Cup Round 6 on Friday, February 18, and the $140,000 IDA Development Grand Prix CSI3* held on Sunday, February 20, on the grass derby field.  Riding Cornwall BH, Derbyshire earned third place in Section B of Thursday’s class and again jumped double clear again on Sunday to finish in ninth place.

“It is a lovely award to win,” said Derbyshire, 33, of the Leading Lady Rider title.  “A few years ago, I won it a couple of times.  It is so generous that Martha sponsors this award.  It is a really nice way to recognize the ladies in the sport and I know that we all enjoy it.

“This is my sixth season with ‘Wally,’” continued Derbyshire of the 14-year-old Holsteiner stallion (Con Air x Cambridge) owned by Gochman Sport Horses LLC.  “We got him when he was eight years old.  He loves to jump clear.  He is sometimes tricky in the jump-off because he is a little hard to steer and can get strong.  I normally play it a little safer on him, but I know he always tries to jump a clear round.  He has the best personality as well so you can’t really ask for more than that.”

In recognition of winning the Leading Lady Rider Award, Derbyshire was presented with a bottle of champagne, a bouquet of flowers, and a gift certificate for a shopping spree at Hunt, Ltd. by Jolicoeur’s daughter, Isabel, joined by Louie Jacobs.

A long-time sponsor and dedicated supporter of horse sport at WEF for many years, 2022 marks Jolicoeur’s 12th season presenting the Leading Lady Rider Award.  A former competitor herself, Jolicoeur enjoyed a successful international show jumping career before becoming Florida’s number one Douglas Elliman real estate broker.

Throughout WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, given in memory of fellow realtor and horsewoman Dale Lawler, is presented each week to the female athlete who earns the most points in the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series and grand prix events.  During the final week of WEF, the Martha W. Jolicoeur Overall Leading Lady Rider Award will be presented to the female rider who accumulates the most points throughout the 13-week circuit.
