Aaron Vale (USA) piloted I Adermie R 4, owned by Lori Osterstock, to top honors in the $100,000 Coca-Cola Beverages Florida Grand Prix on Saturday, January 14, 2023, during the second week of the Winter Spectacular Show Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala in Ocala, FL. An international field of 32 competitors representing nine different nations vied for the top spot in the class. Nine horse-and-rider combinations successfully cleared the first round, designed by Ben Townley (GBR), to advance to the jump-off. Vale and the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare were the last to go in the jump-off and stopped the timers at 37.412 seconds to claim victory.

“I Adermie R 4 is a bit of a smaller horse with a smaller step, so I had to gallop from one to two to get the nine strides done,” explained Vale. “She was balanced enough to fence two where I could grab the right rein and begin turning before we landed to get to the double combination. I think I did one less to the double than everyone else. Then we were really fast back to the Lugano oxer. I did take a bit of a liberty to the navy fence, but she knew it was game on and cleared it. That gave me a little bit more room to the next jump so I could move up to the final vertical.”

Jacqueline Ruyle (USA) rode her own San Chano to second place with a jump-off time of 38.370. Vale and Cristo Beech, owned by Thinkslikeahorse and Alise Carrico, rounded out the podium after stopping the clock at 38.584 seconds.

Alexanne Thibault and Cidanos Z Secure the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix Win

Alexanne Thibault (CAN) and her own Cidanos Z rose to the top of the leaderboard in the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Ben Townley (GBR) designed a technical first track in the WEC Grand Arena for the starting field of 42 competitors. Thibault and the eight-year-old Zangersheide gelding were one of 13 horse-and-rider combinations to produce a fault-free first round to qualify for the jump-off. The pair stopped the timers at 30.563 seconds in the jump-off to secure the blue ribbon.

“I know this class is very competitive here and always has a lot of entries,” commented Thibault. “I knew I had to give it my all. I preferred taking the risk and going fast rather than being too conservative. Cidanos Z is very quick and careful off the ground so I knew he would leave the fences up.”
