2022 Capital Challenge Horse Show Expands to 11 Days, September 29-October 9

The 29th edition of the Capital Challenge Horse Show returns to the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD, from September 29 through October 9, 2022. The prestigious, ever-popular equestrian competition will feature a newly expanded 11-day schedule.

Equitation Weekend, presented by BIGEQ.COM, now offers four full days of competition. The show will begin on Thursday, September 29, with the flat phase and gymnastics phase of the EMO Insurance Agency/United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) 3’3” Jumping Seat Medal Final for the East Coast in addition to the Adult Amateur Equitation division.

Friday competition will highlight the final round of the EMO Insurance Agency/USHJA 3’3” Jumping Seat Medal Final as well as the North American Adult Amateur Equitation Championships. The main event on Saturday will be the Taylor Harris Insurance Services National Children’s Medal Finals.

On Sunday, October 2, the Palm Beach International Academy North American Junior Equitation Championships will take center stage at Prince George’s Equestrian Center.

“We are thrilled to see the continued development of equitation competition at the Capital Challenge Horse Show,” said Capital Challenge co-founder and show manager Oliver Kennedy. “The expanded schedule will help accommodate the growing popularity of our equitation offerings and allow each of our major equitation finals to be a featured event each day. We look forward to welcoming more of the country's top hunter, jumper, and equitation riders to our event this year.”

Following the conclusion of the expanded Equitation Weekend, the Capital Challenge Horse Show will feature additional finals and championships with the country’s best hunter, jumper, and equitation horses and riders. Throughout the week, the show will offer World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Hunter Challenges for amateurs, juniors, children, ponies, developing professionals, and the coveted WCHR Professional Challenge on Wednesday, October 5. Spectators will also get to watch the top six hunter riders in the country go head-to-head in the WCHR Professional Finals on Friday, October 7.

The Capital Challenge Horse Show will also host the North American League (NAL) Finals. The five NAL divisions that will be showcased are the Adult Jumper, Children’s Jumper, Low Junior/Amateur Jumper, Children’s Hunter, and Adult Hunter.

Additional major classes to look forward to will be the $25,000 3’ and 3’3” Green Hunter North American Championship, the Ariat National Adult Medal Finals, and the Medium Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic.
