Tiffany Cambria (USA) and Vavoom, owned by Amanda Hood, won the Equis Boutique Best Presented Horse Award during CSI 3* competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) Fall IV, held October 12 through 16 in Mill Spring, NC. Equis Boutique sponsors the Best Presented Horse Award at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Horse Inspection during all weeks of FEI-sanctioned competition at TIEC throughout the 2016 season.
Cambria prepared Vavoom, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Casantos x Rossini), for the FEI Horse Inspection herself and her efforts proved noteworthy when the ground jury named her best presented.
“They called to tell me we had won and I had to listen to the voicemail twice,” said Cambria who trains with her husband Guy Cambria at Code Four Show Stables, which they own and operate together in Upperville, Virginia. “I have never won anything like this before so I was really surprised and quite honored because there were a lot of nicely presented horses [at Tryon] this week.”
When asked about her decision to groom her mount herself Cambria responded, “I like to spend time with this horse as much as I can. That connection is a big part for me.”
“This award is a great thing,” continued Cambria. “I think it brings a higher level to the sport. There are always eyes on and having a horse looking its best is important.”
Cambria and Hood imported Vavoom as a seven-year-old and just moved him up to FEI competition this May. Cambria admits that she always knew the gelding had talent, but that he was a diamond in the rough.
“We had to put him in the hot seat to really see what he could do,” she said. “He has really come into his own. There has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears between the two of us, but he has become a special horse. My goal for him is to continue at the FEI level and get a little more competitive and then one day go to Europe and compete there. He has to pay his dues a little first.”
For the Equis Best Presented Horse Award, Cambria and Vavoom were honored with a Kingsland jacket and a set of Kentucky Horsewear boots by Kris LePow of Equis Boutique.
International competition kicked off during Tryon Fall IV at TIEC and continues during the next two weeks with a FEI 5* and 3* still to come. Equis will present the Best Presented Horse Award during Tryon Fall V and VI to cap the 2016 season at TIEC.
